Rimi Baltic has won in two categories at the European Private Label Awards

Two of Rimi private label products have been recognised as the best products of 2021 and won at the European Private Label Awards. Selection by Rimi Carrot Pesto won the title of the best product in the European Private Label Awards Ambient Grocery (packaged food that can be stored at room temperature) category, gluten-free Rimi Pumpkin Seed Flour won in the Free-From Foods (gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-free and egg-free products) category.

“The development of each private label product requires considerable amount of work for the duration of several months, close cooperation with manufacturers to create excellent recipes using high quality, healthy ingredients. On our search for special flavours we have created a range of innovative products and now we are proud to see the results and success of our joint work on an international scale. Our customers also appreciate the products of the private label and consider them as good or even better than the products of big brands in surveys. Rimi will continue expanding and developing the private label as an opportunity to combine excellent quality with affordable price and offer an unusual alternative to conventional everyday products,” emphasizes Rimi Baltic Private Label Director Andris Aire.

ESM: European Supermarket Magazine gives awards to retailers and suppliers of the European grocery industry for excellence in store private label product innovations. Rimi Baltic has earned the highest evaluation alongside the leading retailers from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Portugal.

The jury panel was especially asked to take into account during the assessment such aspects of products as product innovation, presentation and taste. In the Ambient Grocery category Selection by Rimi Carrot Pesto made based on an authentic Italian recipe from fresh carrots, sunflower oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, its creamy texture making it ideal for serving with pasta, grilled chicken or salad was recognised as the winner. In the Free-From Foods category, on the other hand, gluten-free Rimi Pumpkin Seed Flour has been recognised as the best product. It is distinguished by the taste, colour and aroma of freshly ground pumpkin seeds.

Among the finalists of the competition were food retailers from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Island, Finland, Hungary, Turkey, Ukraine and the Baltic states.

“With rapid changes in the habits of customers during the last 12 months the necessity to provide a strong offer from the private label has become more important than ever,” says Stephen Wynne-Jones, the editor of ESM: European Supermarket Magazine. “The winners and finalists of this year clearly demonstrate reasons, for which store private labels are able to preserve strong positions in the European grocery industry, sometimes beating independent brands.”
