Rimi Corporate Responsibility Report 2024

Rimi holds a position of responsibility both in the supply chain, as well as in the societies it works in. From the field and production, all the way to when the product has reached the clients’ homes, sustainability and corporate social responsibility remain a priority. See our milestones of Rimi’s work on sustainability across the Baltic in 2024 according to five focus areas: locality, environment, health, diversity, and quality. Please note that report has been prepared as a part of the consolidated group report by Rimi Baltic AB former parent company ICA Gruppen. The 2024 reporting is prepared in accordance with the current ESRS framework to comply with CSRD.

""Focus on the biggest impact" was the key formula for Rimi`s sustainability work in 2024. While standing out among Northern Europe`s food retailers with the lowest in the industry food waste share from kilograms of food sold, in 2024 we managed to reduce food waste by another 19% compared to 2023 and achieved a record low share of 1.39%  That was possible by a devoted work of the whole Rimi team, especially the store colleagues, who continue to implement our sustainability strategy every day. We are thankful to our strategic partners the local Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian food banks, who are an integral in helping the most vulnerable people in our community to solve food safety issues. We are continuously investing in the wellbeing, diversity and inclusion of our workforce. Rimi stands out in the area of gender balance with 40/60 of male and female Baltic management team members. We take pride in our inclusive culture and a continuously high employee engagement index that reflects an engaged, supported and motived team. Alongside providing support and benefits as a responsible employer, we continue to support our employees also in times of personal need with the help of the Employee Support Fund and other initiatives," says Giedrius Bandzevičius, CEO of Rimi Baltic.

"Reducing our impact especially by doubling-down on preventing and reducing food waste, as well as managing the sustainability risks will continue to be strategic priority for Rimi Baltic. Thanks to a great cooperation with the local food banks (Eesto Toidupank, Paēdušai Latvijai and Maisto Bankas), we managed to donate 3.1 million kilograms or up to 56% of the written off, but still safe to eat food products in 2024. As a food retailer we consciously chose food waste reduction as a focus area and that has brought us a successful turnaround, compared to an increasing 2.4% food waste share in 2020.  With the 2024 Rimi Baltic Sustainability Report we enter a new era of non-financial data disclosures with the first ever report in accordance with the European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) on a Group Level. Rimi will continue to integrate our Baltic sustainability data in Group level reports going further with the new mother company Salling Group (Denmark)," says Zanda Šadre, Corporate Responsibility and Reporting Director.
