Danish retailer Salling Group, which owns the Rimi retail chain in the Baltic States, is inviting startups and innovators to apply for funding from its Salling Seeds investment fund. With a total investment of EUR 67 million, the company is seeking to foster the development of new knowledge, technologies and sustainable solutions to facilitate valuable changes in the retail industry.
The Salling Seeds investment fund was founded in the autumn of 2024 with the goal of supporting startups and fast-growing companies that can facilitate the development of the retail industry through innovative business models and innovative technologies. Salling Seeds is seeking ambitious companies with attractive growth potential and is ready to invest in startups that are still at the outset of their product development, as well as more mature growing businesses with the potential to create significant improvements for customers, employees and the daily operations of the company. These can be both new technologies and solutions for digital customer experience, sustainability and various consumer trends. In the first round, the amount of individual investments will range from EUR 0.7 million to EUR 3.5 million.
“Retail is developing rapidly and innovation knows no bounds. We approach the market with an open mind and are seeking solutions that can bolster our business and create real changes for our customers. Although our day-to-day focus is on efficient business management and process optimization, the retail industry is changing constantly. Salling Seeds will help to combine the power of innovation offered by startups with our knowledge, valuable experience and extensive network of support and growth opportunities,” says Andreas Møballe, Head of Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions at Salling Group and CEO of Salling Seeds.
"Salling Seeds is unlocking significant opportunities for group companies to tap into innovative solutions at an early stage of development -enabling them to stay ahead of industry competitors. At Rimi, we’re committed to actively exploring ways to adapt these successful solutions in the Baltics, enhancing both the customer experience and our everyday operations,” says Andris Vedigs, Innovation Lead at Rimi Baltic.
